OKLAHOMA CITY - In a challenging day of soccer at Taft Stadium, the Classen SAS@NE Lady Comets showcased resilience and determination despite facing formidable opponents in the Northwest Classen Invitational Girls Varsity Soccer tournament. The team faced off against Santa Fe South High School and Putnam City High School, experiencing mixed fortunes on the field.

Game 1: Classen SAS@NE vs. Santa Fe South High School

The Lady Comets entered their first encounter against Santa Fe South High School with optimism but succumbed to a 9-1 defeat. The Saints wasted no time asserting dominance, netting two quick goals within the opening two minutes. However, the Lady Comets found their rhythm, with Avery Fisher capitalizing on a well-executed passing combination in the 6th minute, assisted by Emma Magnuson. Fisher's precise strike marked her second goal of the season, offering a glimpse of the team's potential.

Despite Fisher's contribution, the remainder of the game belonged to the Saints. The Lady Comets displayed resilience but were unable to overcome the early deficit, concluding the match with a commendable effort against a strong opponent.

Game 2: Classen SAS@NE vs. Putnam City High School

In the second match of the day, Classen SAS@NE faced off against Putnam City High School, ultimately falling 6-0 to the Pirates. The first half remained closely contested, with the Lady Comets trailing by two goals. However, as the game progressed, the Pirates extended their lead with three more goals in quick succession during the latter part of the match.

Despite the scoreline, Coach Germann expressed satisfaction with his team's performance. "Despite what the score showed, there was a lot to like about how the team played today," he remarked. "They did not give up after conceding their first goal in each match. Also, there were many great passing combinations that will eventually lead to goal-scoring opportunities."

Coach Germann acknowledged the difficulty of tournaments like the Northwest Classen Invitational, emphasizing the quality of the participating teams. "Tournaments like these are difficult. There are some good teams with talented players on display today. As long as we keep taking one step forward, this team will be fun to watch this season."

While the Lady Comets faced setbacks, their coach's optimism and the team's resilience leave room for improvement and the promise of an exciting season ahead.
