OKLAHOMA CITY — The Classen School of Advanced Studies at Northeast swim team delivered a dominant performance at the 5A Regional meet on Feb. 7, fueled by a wave of personal records and podium finishes that secured the entire squad’s advancement to the state championships.
The Comets’ girls relay team highlighted the day’s successes, capturing a first-place finish in the freestyle relay with a personal record (PR) time of 1:54.03. The girls also secured third place in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking in at 2:11.3.
Individual standouts Madeline Rogers and Uma Geng led the charge for the girls. Rogers earned third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.8) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:19.2), setting personal bests in both. Geng mirrored that success with a pair of third-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (27.38) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.5).
Top Individual Girls’ Results:
Lila Guiford: 4th in 100-yard freestyle (1:02.00) and 4th in 200-yard individual medley (2:34.5).
Scout Howell-Dowd: 5th in 200-yard freestyle (2:22.01) and 6th in 200-yard individual medley (2:44.6).
Elle Earley: 6th in 100-yard backstroke (1:13.4) and 9th in 50-yard freestyle (29.2).
Kymberlyn Carter: 8th in 100-yard freestyle (1:08.2).
On the boys' side, Lucas Hobson reached a long-awaited career milestone, breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100-yard freestyle. Hobson finished 11th with a time of 58.88 and added another PR in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.3).
Bentley Mendoza provided one of the biggest highlights of the afternoon, shaving six seconds off his previous best in the 200-yard individual medley to finish at 2:30.8.
Top Individual Boys’ Results:
Foster Jones: PR in 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.6).
Vincent Markes: PR in 50-yard freestyle (27.9).
Aarush Kutikanti: 3-second PR in 50-yard freestyle (30.9).
The boys' relay teams also found success, placing sixth in the freestyle relay (1:50.2) and eighth in the 200-yard medley (2:04.00), both of which were personal records.
With every competing member posting improved times, the Comets now shift their focus toward the State Meet.
