MIDWEST CITY ā The Classen SAS Lady Comets made a statement this weekend at the WMC tournament, earning a hard-fought second-place finish against some of the top competition in the area.
The team battled through pool play with grit and determination, posting wins over U.S. Grant, Northwest Classen and Midwest City to secure their spot in the championship bracket. In the semifinals, the Lady Comets delivered a thrilling victory over Putnam City West, showcasing their strong serving and relentless defense.
In the championship match, Classen faced off against Putnam City North. Despite a hard-fought effort and several long rallies that had the crowd on its feet, the Lady Comets came up just short, finishing as tournament runner-up.
āIām proud of the way our girls competed today. They played with heart, fought for every point, and proved they can go toe-to-toe with anyone,ā head coach Nelson said.
Standout performances included Charlie Kaler, who led the team in kills, Rycki Johnson with key defensive digs, and the duo of Evie Bruner and Charlotte Bradshaw, who took over by controlling the offense as setters after the starting setter was injured in the semifinals.
With this strong showing, the Lady Comets will continue to build momentum for the rest of the season. Their second-place finish is not only a testament to their hard work but also a preview of the exciting things still to come.
Classen SAS at Northeast will return to action Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Midwest City High School, with the freshman team playing at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
