OKLAHOMA CITY - The Classen SAS @ Northeast athletic department announced the hiring of Jared Howell as the new football head coach on Friday.
Howell comes to Classen SAS after serving as the defensive backs coach at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK for the past three seasons. He was instrumental in helping head coach Dustin Hada flip a 1-10 SNU football program to its most winning season (2023) since joining Division II in 2013. Howell was a part of SNU’s first postseason berth in their NCAA Divsion-II era, helping lead the team to the Heritage Bowl in 2023. Howell started at SNU as a graduate assistant where he coached the cornerbacks. Under his leadership, he coached a two-time All-Conference cornerback and a conference statistical leading safety.
Before his coaching career began Howell played Division I football at Tennessee Tech University. At Tech he played nickelback and was a part of one of the greatest turnarounds in the 2019 college football season. Howell got his start in coaching for the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles as a student assistant his senior year. He contributed as the assistant defensive backs coach.
Howell graduated from Tennessee Tech Magna Cum Laude with a degree in finance and a minor in social sciences in May of 2021. As a graduate assistant, Howell obtained his MBA from Southern Nazarene University in May 2024.
“I’m so excited to enter the community at Classen SAS.” said Howell in his introductory press conference. “I’m seeking to create great relationships here and not only be a coach, but a teacher, mentor, and leader at the school. I want to create a winning environment with the relentless work ethic from the outstanding student-athletes at Classen SAS. I can’t wait to get to work!”
Howell and his soon-to-be wife Sarah are excited to join the Classen SAS family.
